Asthenia: how it manifests itself and how to deal with it

Asthenia is a complex and very common organic condition, defined as a total lack of energy with reduced physical and mental work capacity that does not improve with rest.

Those who suffer from it report symptoms such as tiredness, lack of strength, weakness, lack of will to carry out normal daily activities, and extreme difficulty concentrating.

The impact that asthenia can have on general health, and therefore on the quality of life of those who experience its symptoms, always suggests in-depth analysis to understand its origin, which can be physical or psychological in nature, and evaluate its severity .

Although tiredness can be caused by more or less important pathologies, let's look more closely at the tiredness representative of a larger sample of people, that is, the tiredness that can manifest itself during seasonal changes, or when we are subjected to workloads that make us more fragile on a physical and above all mental level.

The most common clinical manifestations of mental fatigue are difficulty falling asleep, frequent headaches and exhaustion.

Often it is the changes in season, sudden changes in temperature and intense and prolonged emotional loads that make our body unable to adapt to different conditions, thus generating a sense of chronic tiredness. Tired eyes, dizziness and poor concentration are some of the many mental effects that poor quality sleep entails.

Leaving aside the conditions of asthenia due to pathologies for which the assistance of a doctor is necessary, let's see in the nutritional field what we can eat to counteract fatigue and mental tiredness.

For example, to combat tiredness a diet rich in fiber and mineral salts like iron, an important aid in cases of martial deficiency, responsible for the sense of exhaustion. Also useful B vitamins which allow the transformation of food into ready-to-use energy.

For those who are unable to provide the right amount of nutritional elements through their diet to help maintain a good level of health and combat mental tiredness and exhaustion, products for the most varied needs can be found on the market.

Useful to the cause are the edible (edible) plants which have historically been used to counteract disorders linked to psycho-physical stress, such as Lemon Balm1, the Saffron2 , Griffonia3. The latter in particular contains high levels of 5-hydroxy tryptophan, an important precursor of the hormones that regulate good mood (serotonin) and restful sleep (melatonin).
